"Undead? Yes! Unperson? No!"
"End Vitalism Now!"
"Glad to be Grey"
--From "Reaper Man" by Terry Pratchett
Sign from a "protester" in WI: "I'm undead & I still vote!"
Zombie Chants and Signs from statichowl.com.
"What do we want? BRAINS! When do we want it? ..BRAINS!"
"Zombie Zombie Zombie!
Brains Brains Brains!
Zombie Zombie Zombie!
Brains Brains Brains!" (Rinse n' repeat.)
"Support proposition I-8-U"
"Zombies -are-(crossed out) eat people too!"
"Arrrgh!"
"Brains!"
"Got brains?"
"Right to unlife"
"Give me liberty or give me brains!"
"Give me liberty or give me death... again!"
"Mrh?"
"Grrrr! Arrgh!"
My Original Signs:
"George [A.] Romero for President"
"I'm proud of my dead grey son!"
"The Living-Impaired Need You"
"I support Grey Rights!"
"People are friends, not food" (W/"friends" & "not" crossed out w/a big smear of fake blood. :))
I also think that just a great big pseudo blood smear across a signboard would work well. ^_^
Or, perhaps you could make your statement w/a prop head stuck onto a pike. :)
"But wait! I've never protested before!! How do I make a sign?" In theory it's pretty simple, but for those of us (like me) who'd like some help starting out, or for those folks who'd want to know the "exacts," here are some links that should help:

(Please Note: All views expressed on these pages are the page author's. The Lurch does not officially endorse or support any of the political/social opinions expressed on these sites!) We don't want to get into any political battles here, people!
Which reminds me: If you're planning on getting truly, genuinely political, or if you plan on "touching a few nerves" or "really pushing the envelope" w/your signs, slogans, or chants, please visit this link to our official site's FAQ. The long & short of it? I am all about freedom of expression, creativity and being passionate about your beliefs. But this Lurch is supposed to be FUN, so keep that in mind when you make up your signs, slogans, n' chants. :)
Mix some common sense, a little public respect, a good helping of imagination, and a dose of creativity n' originality into your signage/slogans/chants, & I guarantee you'll make a great impression at the Lurch!
"Why should I care- I've got my own agenda!" you say? Because we don't want to get anyone inside or out of the Lurch in trouble, provoke any crowd/official problems, or have us disbanded/thrown out of or off any premises. So please just remember where we'll be, (i.e. the center of DC) who might see us (like "mundanes," local officials, government folks, law enforcment, etc). and that not everyone will be receptive (or civil) if they're bluntly confronted w/a zombie touting beliefs different than their own.
"But that's the point! I'm trying to make a POINT!!" Believe me, I get it. But do you really want to get arrested for inciting a fight or a riot in downtown DC, amongst a bunch of other innocent people n' Lurchers? Do you want others arrested for being associated w/something you did/made that turned out to cause trouble? Would you really want the Lurch to be disbanded because your sign/chant/slogan caused a problem? I hope not. N' I bet others who're coming to lurch just for fun hope for the same thing.
If you want to make a sign saying something about your personal opinions or beliefs, try this: Trust me. Although shocking some might be the point, cleverness and wit might get you further (in this situation) to where you're going. If you can slip a message into something funny, witty or smart, not only will your message contribute to the fun and up-mood of the Lurch, but you'll also be making someone smile or think while you're slipping the knife in w/o them ever feeling the sting. :)
(Please Note: If you choose to ignore our guidelines, or not to read them and your picket sign is inappropriate, it -will- be removed from the Lurch. If you cause a large enough ruckus about it, so will you. Sorry, but that's just the way it goes. We don't want any 1 ruining the fun for the many who've come just for the fun of the Lurch!)
If it weren't for the socio-political situation in these times right now, I don't think I would. I hate to sound preachy, n' even in some respects that I even have to go over any of this at all. (I mean, you'd think that folks would not take other folks dressed up as zombies too seriously- or that we could all speak our minds/hearts w/o having to worry about every possible contingency. But this -is- a public, group thing, and we need to make sure all our bases are covered so NO ONE gets into trouble, no? ..I guess sometimes you just never can know what'll happen, n' that in order to protect yourself & those around you, it's better to cover your butt than go on trust and have bad things happen. The Boy Scouts knew their stuff- "be prepared!"
Wuhl I'm sure tryin'!! ;D
Annnd.. dassit! Now that that's done, I can go back to suggesting fun makeup and prop sites Yay!! (Which btw, some more will be coming in the next LurchPost. ^_^ That'll be here soon!)
Yeah, I know it's a lot of stuff to go through, think about, and process; but hopefully ti wall all just add to the Lurch, and make it a safer, more entertaining, fun and memorable experience for eveyone. :) Hope you all are having a great night, and see you at the Lurch!!

It always has been.
It's just an option people can choose to take, or not. It's up to individuals if they wanna protest or not. I've been listing that possibility on all our pages since they were made. :) "Come out and lurch for brains, or protest for zombie rights."October 1 2006, 16:59:51 UTC 5 years ago
so it's supported??
October 2 2006, 00:56:11 UTC 5 years ago
Not exactly-
it's more like "if ya gotta say something by way of protesting," be careful what you say, and try to keep it clever, lighthearted, n' fun- so as not to incite a riot or get the Lurch disbanded." I.e. saying stuff like "I'm undead and I still vote" is okay. But saying stuff like "put your aborted baby to good use, donate lunch to a zombie" is not. Ya know what I mean?October 2 2006, 01:54:16 UTC 5 years ago
